Learning How to Cook
There are many different ways to learn how to cook. However, I believe that the easiest and most rewarding way is too start by learning a few simple recipes. From there, one can master more ambitious recipes. Then one can start gaining a knowledge of underlying principles (if one wishes to go this far).
There are of course other approaches. There are the academic approaches, where one starts with a study of food nutrition and food characteristics. Alternatively, there are the chef school approaches, with the focus on completely mastering each small topic before moving to another. However, these approaches require that one invest a lot of time and effort before seeing the benefits (to be able to put some decent food on the table for oneself, family and friends).
We take the opposite approach, trying to get you to the successful cooking stage with minimal time and effort. It may not be the right approach for those who want to learn to become a great chef, but in our experience it works well for the average person.
Starting
We will start with some basic recipes for common foods, which are both easy and popular. Once you have the basic skills, you can then broaden your range to somewhat more interesting recipes.
Our starter recipes and guides are:
How to Boil an Egg
Boiled Potatoes
How to Cook Spaghetti
How to Cook Fish
Each week (starting mid-November 2008) we will add another recipe or article about basic cooking skills. Please bear with us as we take the time to carefully write each one. |
