Ingredients
  • 2 pork legs
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Honey
  • 4 teaspoons Beer

Preparation
  • Cut the pork skin for the entire length of the leg. Make a cut every inch (every 2 centimeters). Then make cuts around the leg (in other words, at right angles to the first cuts).
    • When you are finished, the skin will be cut into squares about 1 inch (2cm) in size).
  • Cut the garlic into slivers. With a sharp knife, make small holes in the pork and push the garlic into the holes.
  • Put the pork into a covered pot and place in the oven at 180C (350F).
  • Mix the honey and beer.
    • After half an hour, brush the mixture over the top of the pork
    • Repeat approximately every 15 minutes, until the pork is cooked.
  • A large leg of pork will take about 2 hours to cook, a smaller leg about 1.5 hours.
    • For the first half of this time, the pork should be in a covered pot at 180C (350F).
    • For the second half, remove the cover and reduce the temperature to 150 (300C)

When cooked, the pork can be served.

Additional Notes

The skin is cut into bite-sized squares prior to cooking as it is difficult to cut the skin afterwards (it is a bit hard and crispy).

One can vary the amount of garlic to give a stronger or weaker garlic taste.

This recipe uses 1 unit of honey to 4 units of beer. Some people use 1 units of honey to 2 units of beer to give the glaze a sweeter taste, but most people would probably find this too sweet.
